Job description

We are looking to appoint PGTAs to support teaching and learning in our BSc Sociology modules. This will involve working with the academic module leads to deliver small group teaching and/or placement support for students taking the above modules in the EPS Department. 

The main duties of the posts are to support the teaching and learning on one of two modules: ‘Identities: Sociological Perspectives” and ‘Global Issues: Interconnections & Disconnections’

Successful candidates will be given training in support of their roles. PGTAs are expected to be able to commit to being present on the Bloomsbury campus during the terms for which teaching is allocated and during the assessment period as required. These roles are available from January 2026 to UCL Post-Graduate Research (PGR) students who are registered from 23rd September 2025. Please be aware that students may only be employed up to 180 hours in total as a PGTA across all UCL programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
• Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
• Working with students in classroom-based seminar activities, leading discussion, supporting their interpretation of sociological research and some assessment support. 

Requirements for role

The successful candidate will be educated to master’s degree level (or having equivalent experience), in a Sociology related field and working towards a relevant postgraduate degree (PhD). You will have a specialist knowledge appropriate to the module taught and have excellent working knowledge of MS Office software including Word, Excel, email, and the internet. In addition, you will have the ability to work independently for short periods and as part of a team, recognising when advice / input needs to be sought and have the flexibility to respond to changing priorities in a busy environment.
