Job description

The Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis is offering a range of teaching opportunities for postgraduate research
students to assist on its Masters’ level courses as Post Graduate Teaching Assistants. Both full and part time students
are eligible to apply.

Please note that PGTA roles are dependent on student numbers and these are to be confirmed for individual modules.

In the event of student numbers being lower than expected, the work may be not required or reduced. PGTAs will be
notified if work is withdrawn on this basis.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
• Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
• After-class contact time with students, including time-tabled office hours;
• Marking students' work;
• Giving feedback to students

Requirements for role

Any PGR student wishing to undertake teaching or assessing responsibilities at UCL must have attended the Arena One: Gateway workshop. You must have the right to work in the UK.

Other requirements are:

• Working towards a postgraduate research degree (PhD/EngD).
• A desire to gain teaching experience in a built environment discipline.
• Disciplinary knowledge and, if applicable, specialist skills of the subject area of the programme unit/module.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with students and staff.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to be flexible in terms of research workload and other commitments.
• Ability to work independently for short periods and as part of a team, recognising when advice / input needs to be sought.
• Available for the three hour mandatory UCL Arena One Gateway Workshop, if not previously attended.
