Job description

The Department of Arts and Sciences wishes to make a number of appointments for Postgraduate Teaching Assistants for the 2025/26 academic year. These appointments are required to work on the BASc Arts and Sciences degrees based at the Bloomsbury campus.

The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning in our BASC-coded modules, working with the academic modules leads through the delivery of small group teaching for students taking modules in the Arts and Sciences Department.

Main duties of the post are tutorial class teaching, regular meetings with the course lecturer, provision of feedback to students, attendance reporting, coursework assessment and examination marking. PGTAs will be given training in support of their roles.

PGTAs are expected to be able to commit be present on the Bloomsbury campus for the BASc modules for the full duration of the term for which teaching is allocated and during the examination period as required. We will not be offering any online seminar classes in 2025/26.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
  • Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
  • After-class contact time with students, including time-tabled office hours;
  • Marking students' work;
  • Giving feedback to students
