This year’s graduation event was very well attended, as is usually the case, and it was great to see so many of our graduates there! We took some photos following the main event, at the reception. We hope you enjoy them!

26 February 2014, 6 - 8.30 pm: Alumni and Careers Evening

Thank you to all who were able to attend our first Linguistics Alumni evening, it was great to see students from so many past years all together.

For those who weren’t able to make the evening, our alumni speakers have provided us with short biographies of their journey from the UCL Linguistics department to where they are today.

Their excellent talks illustrated the varied, and sometimes unexpected career paths that linguistics can lead to, including marketing, creative technology and publishing. Remember that you can keep in touch with other linguistics alumni, as well as current students on our LinkedIn page.

Award of Leverhulme Trust grant to Ad Neeleman: I recently was awarded a grant from the Leverhulme Trust for two years of teaching replacement. This is to allow cooperation with Peter Ackema on a book on person (provisional title: A Grammar of Person). Although I will miss teaching (no, really!), I am very much looking forward to working on this project. Peter and I go back a long way (we did our PhD in Utrecht at around the same time), and our cooperation has always been fun. Fact: when Peter was in London to work on our previous book (Beyond Morphology), he met his long-time partner, Amela Čamdžić, with whom he now has a son, Sam.
