Information for students
Ethics
Students doing projects with the speech research group should familiarize themselves with divisional ethics procedures. Information is provided here.
On completion of projects please ensure that signed informed consent forms are given to Peter Howell (room 441 Bedford Way).
Pause Analysis
It has been suggested that pauses in speech occur at major syntactic boundaries. We are interested to see if this is the case in spontaneous speech. We are also interested in whether other linguistic factors such as phonological word boundaries predict pauses.
The "step by step guide to pause analysis" is designed to show how we annotated our SFS files to enable us to carry out this analysis. See our manuals in Pause Analysis.
