Cooperating with others plays a significant role in the lives of humans as well as many other species. My research aims to understand the cognitive and behavioural building blocks of cooperation. For the majority of my work I use behavioural experiments to compare how humans and our closest living relatives, chimpanzees and bonobos, coordinate their decisions for cooperation. My current project (Dr. Alicia P. Melis) focuses on how chimpanzees use communication for cooperative problem solving.
