My research mainly focuses on social cognition of emotion and facial expression, looking at how emotions are expressed, and how they are perceived by human and machine decoders.
Such a complex cognitive process of decoding facial expression is now not unique to human observers. Previous studies demonstrated that trained automated classifiers also showed their successful performance when recognising facial expressions. What if we find out computers perceive and recognise faces better than us as human? What if computers find out that our facial expressions are actually far more complex than we thought? How would we feel about this? I hope I could gradually answer these question.
