UCLUS is a research unit within UCL's Division of Psychology and Language Sciences. Guided by psychological theories, with close attention to the broader sociocultural context, we conduct research in the field of stigma.
Two core topics in our research are:
1. Stigma associated with intellectual disability
Our research aims to advance our understanding of intellectual disability stigma, its impact on people with intellectual disabilities and their families, and effective ways to challenging such stigma in diverse social and cultural contexts.
2. The impact of stigma on disclosure of mental health problems
Our research focuses on disclosure of lived experience of mental health problems as a route to challenging stigma while reducing stress resulting from a perceived need for secrecy or concealment.
