IAPT Perinatal Competence Framework

Welcome to the IAPT perinatal competence framework.

This site gives open access to the framework, which details the knowledge and skills that need to be brought together to deliver effective assessment and psychological interventions in IAPT for parents with mental health problems during pregnancy and the postnatal period.

The primary audience for this work will be providers of psychological interventions, trainers and supervisors, clinical managers, and commissioners of services. Although targeting interventions typically provided within IAPT, these competences can inform practice in other settings where perinatal parents present with mild to moderate mental health problems.

It is important to read the introductory sections of the framework document, which explains how the competence framework was developed, and includes a guide to its content.
