Past tense morphology use in written work

Therapist researchers:Susan Ebbels (Moor House School)
FunderMoor House School, Surrey, UK
Summary:

A class of nine pupils (aged 11-13 years) were taught about the past tense using the Shape Coding system during English lessons. Six used the past tense more after the class sessions, but two more made progress only when they received additional intervention in a pair. Possible explanations are either that they merely needed more intervention time, or that they needed a more individualised approach which could be provided in a pair, but not in a group of nine.
