Summary

Bryan et al (2001) describes the development of a screening instrument for language in older people (Barnes Language Assessment). A further project has been funded by the Royal College Of Speech and Language Therapists to establish normative data for age, sex and education matched groups of older people. Profiles will also be developed for equivalent groups of older people for whom English is not their first language.
