Christine Ohuruogu: Olympian, Linguist, and Proud UCL Alumna
Christine Ohuruogu, international athlete and Olympian, earned her BA in Linguistics from UCL in 2005. A four-time Olympian, she has claimed three Olympic medals and twice been crowned World 400m Champion (2007, 2013).
Reflecting on her time at UCL, Christine credits the university with shaping both her academic and personal journey:
"Coming to UCL was the best decision I could have made for my life then and now. It was here that I truly fell in love with London and everything it had to offer. I enjoyed my course, the vibrant community, and being surrounded by so many brilliant minds passing through UCL’s doors.
Linguistics turned out to be the perfect degree for me—though at first, I didn’t even realize it! Initially, I had applied for English Literature and Language at other universities, but once I started my studies at UCL, I knew I had found exactly what I was meant to do. My passion for language was born here, and I couldn’t have chosen a better place for it."
From the lecture halls of UCL to the world’s biggest sporting stages, Christine’s journey is a testament to passion, perseverance, and the power of education.
