The Bencie Woll Prize for Linguistic Research on British Sign Language

The Bencie Woll Prize celebrates exceptional research in British Sign Language (BSL) linguistics. Open to researchers with work published in the last two years, this prize highlights the value of innovative studies in sign language.

Eligibility:

  • Research primarily focused on BSL linguistics.
  • Work published in a peer-reviewed journal or as an authored book.
  • Preference for early-career researchers and Deaf authors.

Application Requirements:

  • A one-page CV.
  • Up to 500 words explaining the significance of the research.
  • A link to the published paper.

Prize Timeline:

  • Submission Deadline: End of May 2025.
  • Winner Announcement: July 2025.
  • The winner will also be invited to give a talk at DCAL (available on Zoom).
  • The winner will present their research at DCAL, receive a certificate of recognition, and a £500 prize.
