Speaker: Dr Lorna Wall, Government Digital Services
In this talk I'll discuss how we do user research at GDS (Government Digital Service). I'll talk about what it's like to work somewhere where the principle "start with user needs not government needs" is at the heart of everything we do.
I'll also share insights from our research on GOV.UK Verify, which is the new way to prove your identity when using digital government services.
About the speaker: Dr Lorna Wall (nee Brown) is Lead User Researcher on GOV.UK Verify at the Government Digital Service. She has 15 years of experience in research in human computer interaction and user experience, working across academia (UCL, University of Glasgow, Corpus Christi College Cambridge), private sector industry (Microsoft Research, Nokia Research, Vodafone, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) and government. Her research interests over the years have included haptics, audio, novel interaction methods, video games and mobile devices. Her current focus is on improving the user experience of identity verification online and on defining best practice for user research in government.
