Better Conversations Conference

The Better Conversations team at UCL is thrilled to announce our 2nd International Better Conversations Conference will be held on Zoom in November 2021.

Our aim is to provide an opportunity to share good practice in communication partner training (CPT), value the work of SLTs in this area, and create a sustainable community of practice. We are using CPT as an umbrella term for all types of intervention focused on improving the everyday conversation skills of our clients and their communication partners.  Our second conference will focus on demystifying therapy - unpacking the components of the BC approach and how to deliver them, and exploring the underlying mechanisms of behaviour change in our clients.  There will be a free pre-conference workshop in the Better Conversations approach to CPT for clinicians with practical experience of CPT and an interest in developing their skills to the next level.

Better Conversations Workshop

Wednesday 10th November 2021

The workshop will run from 10am-4pm on Wednesday 10th November on Zoom and will be for SLTs who are already delivering CPT using Better Conversations principles who want to take their skills to the next level.  Our aim is to provide you with clinical supervision for this approach, and a space to share ideas and tips with fellow SLTs and members of the BC Team.  The workshop will involve two Masterclasses: - 1: Refining skills in identifying barriers and facilitators, and 2: Discussing conversation behaviours with clients.  There will also be a Conversation Surgery where participants can bring clinical scenarios for advice and troubleshooting.  The day will be a mixture of whole and small group activities, with each small group breakout room supported by a member of the BC Team.  The workshop is free and there are 40 places.  These will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  You can book on Eventbrite.  We will operate a waiting list so please cancel your place through Eventbrite if you later realise you are unable to attend, to free the place up for someone else.

Better Conversations Conference

Thursday 11th November 2021

The conference will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Zoom.  Our conference speakers include practising SLTs, student SLTs and SLT researchers who will share their experiences of delivering different types of CPT with a range of adult clients, with a focus on therapy components and enabling behaviour change.  The cost of the conference is £15.  All funds raised will go towards the upkeep and creation of online BC resources.  You can book this via the UCL Online Store.  Unfortunately we are unable to take payments via invoice, places must be booked using a debit or credit card.
