David Lodge

David Lodge is a novelist, critic, and Emeritus Professor of English Literature at the University of Birmingham,  where he taught from 1960 to 1987 before becoming a fulltime writer. His novels include Changing Places, Small World, Nice Work, Thinks... and most recently A Man of Parts, a biographical novel about H.G.Wells. 

He has also written stage plays and screenplays, including adaptations of Nice Work and Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit for the BBC. His numerous books of literary criticism include The Modes of Modern Writing, Consciousness and the Novel and The Art of Fiction.

He was born and brought up in London and has lived in Birmingham since 1960.

David Lodge will be in conversation with Jonathan Coe in the Darwin Lecture Theatre at 15:00. Their title is: "Changing Places Between Birmingham and London".
