A systematic review and meta-analysis
Front of pack labelling provides clearly visible nutritional information about food products and are one approach to improving dietary quality. Labelling appears to improve knowledge and encourage reformulation but less is known about how it influences behaviour. A recent Cochrane review found limited and inconsistent evidence that it changes behaviour. We conducted a high quality systematic review, which aimed to update the Cochrane review, with a focus on pre-packaged foods, examining the impact of FOPL on objectively measured purchasing and consumption. A number of new studies were identified and these appear to support labelling as a strategy to support dietary change.
