British Council India funds female scholars at UCL to mark 70th Anniversary

The Scholarship is the first British Council scheme solely for women and covers tuition fees for a one-year Master's degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) in 2018-19. UCL's recipients of the award will study Reproductive Science and Women's Health MSc, Genetics of Human Disease MSc and Biosciences MRes.

The award marks 70 years of the British Council's work in India and aims to support the UN's 'Sustainable Development Goal 5' in achieving gender equality and empowering women who are likely to become leaders in their fields. It also supports the British Council's own drives to create ambassadors for the educational relationship between Britain and India and unify the economic growth and knowledge ambitions of the different states across India.

UCL's scholars are three of 100 women from across India who will take up Master's programmes at 44 universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We want to share the stories of the great things we've done together, tell new stories, and inspire millions of young people to develop connections for the next 70 years. The women we've selected to be our 70th Anniversary Scholars will be the ambassadors for these ambitions. They'll also be fixing global problems from climate change to drug discovery all the while building the societies we all will want to live in. We're already inspired by them and by what we will do together".
