Student selected for Global Engagement Executive Group

30 October 2014

Dame Nicola Brewer, Vice Provost (International) and the Office for International Affairs are delighted to announce that Sahil Tandon, a current Postgraduate student studying MSc Public Policy, will be joining the Global Engagement Executive Group (GEEG) as a student participant in November.

The GEEG will meet regularly throughout the academic year to discuss the development of UCL's new Global Engagement Strategy (GES), with Sahil providing a personal insight into international issues.

Sahil commented, "Joining GEEG is an amazing opportunity that will enable me to help shape policies and strategies for one of the world's most reputed academic institutions. As a student of Public Policy, hoping to work in international development, I can apply my knowledge of best practice and theory from my own work, as well as my own personal experience of moving to the UK from New Delhi, India. It's a chance of great learning and an experience which I could not pass by."

This is the first time a student has joined a senior committee dealing with high-level institutional strategy.

As a thank you, Dame Nicola will be meeting with all other applicants in early December for an informal reception and a chance to raise their own personal views on the future direction of the Strategy.

Dame Nicola commented, "The interest from UCL students was very high and the quality of the applications was exceptional, illustrating the genuine interest students have in being a part of UCL's emerging Global Engagement Strategy. There will certainly be further opportunities in the future for students to make their views heard and join in with the consultation."

Dame Nicola will be meeting with student officers and representatives from UCLU separately later on in the year as part of ongoing consultation activities - look out for more ways to get involved in myUCL.
