UCL community offers top tips for new students

Print Room Café facebook.com/uclofficial" target="_self">Facebook to suggest their top tips for student life at University College London. Here are their top ten recommendations that will help you settle in as you begin your journey at UCL, from the best places to eat to where to buy stationery and books.

1. Print Room Café

The Print Room Café is located in the centre of UCL's Bloomsbury campus and offers a variety of food and drink options throughout the day including salads, soups, hot drinks and alcoholic beverages.

2. UCL Museums

UCL has three museums located within the Bloomsbury campus: the Grant Museum of Zoology, the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology and the UCL Art Museum (reopens January 2015). Each houses a vast collection and entry is free of charge.

3. Waterstones

Just a few steps from UCL's main campus, Waterstones on Gower Street is Europe's largest academic bookshop with over five miles of shelving and 160,000 titles across its five floors.

4. Cycling

One of the best and cheapest ways to explore the city is by cycling. TfL's cycle hire scheme allows you to hire bicycles from, and return them to the many docking stations dotted around London - some of which are located on UCL campus.

5. ICCo

Extremely popular among students, ICCo offers freshly made pizzas at cheap prices. Either eat in, where your pizza will be prepared as you wait, or order online for collection at a time that suits you.

6. British Museum

The British Museum's collection of world art and artefacts consists of around 8 million works, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive in the world, and what's more, admission is free.

7. Paperchase

Paperchase has three floors of innovative and design-led stationery, cards and gift-wrap, plus it offers a generous 15% student discount as well as other reductions and special offers throughout the year.

8. Indian YMCA Canteen

The Indian YMCA houses a restaurant that is open to the general public, providing cheap and authentic Indian cuisine in the heart of Bloomsbury, close to UCL's main campus.

9. 99p Stores

A favourite among UCL students, 99p Stores in Camden sells an extensive range of branded products across homeware, cleaning, bathroom, food and drink plus loads more - all at 99p.

10. Museum of London

Whether you're new to London or not, the Museum of London is a great place to discover the story of the city. Featuring permanent galleries, as well as changing exhibitions and events, the museum offers free admission.
