Check out these 5 sport-themed study tips from some of UCLU's sports societies and clubs that will help you on your way to becoming a winning UCL student! And if you're feeling inspired, now is the perfect time to join.

1. Perseverance

"When you're taking part in a match that isn't exactly going as planned and you're so many points down, sometimes you feel like you can't win. But then you look to your teammates, your friends, you find the patience and the drive, and you power through to completion. When studying, through perseverance you reach completion, and through completion you take the first step to success."

2. Efficiency

"Power is important in rowing, but power is worth nothing without efficiency in the water; every stroke must be precise and calculated. When it comes to studying, small-yet-effective changes can put you on a successful path. This means avoiding small temptations and distractions, removing aspects that don't work, and keeping those that do, in order to fine-tune your study into an efficient routine."

3. Resilience

"Unpredictable moments, in various shapes and forms, are constantly shaping our lives. The ability to take these within our stride, visualise the end goal, decide on a route to get there and have the courage to succeed is a value that is really important when we train and compete, and it's something that you can apply to studying too."

4. Open-mindedness

"We all have a set way of doing things, like studying or practicing. Yet, sometimes it's beneficial to have an open mind and try something new. In sport, trying a new technique or tactic can lead you to greater success. The same can be said for studying - trying a new study method or exam technique can yield better results, while also adding to your 'game'."

5. Decisiveness

"Tennis, much like university, requires making many tough decisions under pressure, and success often lies in making the right decisions at the right moments in a match. Taking long-term decisions and backing them up with the right short-term choices, combined with talent and hard work, can help you to accomplish your goals."
