Mindfulness practitioners wanted: audio recordings needed for new UCL Medical School mindfulness app

25 May 2017

UCL Medical School and UCL Student Psychological Services are working on ways to improve resilience in medical students and are currently developing a new Mindfulness app for free for use by UCL students.

Mindfulness practitioners wanted: audio recordings needed for new UCL student mindfulness app

Mindfulness is growing in popularity within universities as a behavioural practice to improve resilience, wellbeing, memory, stress management and empathy.

The app will be integrated into the Moodle educational platform, and will host a series of evidence-based mindfulness lessons, mental health awareness, audio recordings to guide practice, and links to further support.

Audio recordings needed

The team behind the app want to integrate audio recordings produced by experienced mindfulness practitioners into the app, and so are asking for those who practice mindfulness to send in or create their own recorded guided practices that are approximately 5-10 minutes long.

These can be recorded on any device; although it is recommended you send audio at the highest quality you can so that it can be edited easily for the app. Poor quality audio that has lots of background noise or lots of static, will not be able to be used.

The best 5-10 best audio recordings that cover a range of techniques, such as body scan or breathing exercises will be selected. In particular, the team would welcome mindfulness practices to address the following:

  • Dealing with exam stress
  • Facing intimidating circumstances/persons/settings
  • Stress of curriculum
  • Dealing with witnessing a death or having a bereavement
  • Dealing with witnessing trauma

If your recording is selected, you will receive full intellectual credit and be able to write on your CV your role in the development of this UCL Medical School app.

Everyone who submits a recording will also be able to be part of the pilot group which will gain preliminary access to early iterations to assess its functionality, accessibility, and to give us feedback on what we could improve.

If you wish to submit a recording, please send your recording to medsch.cpp@ucl.ac.uk and you will be sent a consent form to complete.

Thank you for your help
