Support for students over Easter holidays

From Thursday 2 April to Wednesday 8 April 2015, staffing and services at UCL will be reduced during the UK Easter holiday break.

 

UCL Student Support and Wellbeing has compiled a series of useful links to the services available over the Easter period.

Feel supported

If over the Easter period you feel alone or sad, make sure you speak to a relative, friend or even call the Samaritans.

The Samaritans can be contacted on 08457 909 090 at any time - everything is discussed in confidence.

In an emergency, always phone 999 or make your way to the accident and emergency department at your local hospital.

The closest accident and emergency department to UCL is at University College Hospital, located on Euston Road.

If an incident happens during this period or indeed at any time, it should be reported to UCL Security by calling 222 internally, 020 7679 3333 externally.

Keep yourself busy over Easter to stop yourself feeling low - there are lots of things to do!

Things to do over Easter

Volunteering: UCLU's Volunteering Services Unit has activities you can get involved with during the Easter break and throughout the year, including lots of one-off volunteering opportunities, such as becoming a Family Programme Volunteer at the Ragged School Museum in Mile End.

There are also volunteering opportunities available with the charity Crisis over the Easter period.

Activities and events: There are lots of events taking place at UCL this Easter, including the Medsin Global Health Conference 2015, a GIAG trip to Stonehenge and Salisbury, as well as the Music Society's Boat Ball. To find out what's happening, visit the UCLU What's On Guide. 

International Students House, a charity dedicated to British and International Students in London, also has events on throughout the year.

Faith at UCL: There will be many religious activities over Easter. For information on events and church service times, visit the UCL Chaplain pages or email the UCL Chaplain, Charlotte Ballinger.

Useful information and sources of support

Student Disability Services: There are links and lots of information on the Student Disability Services website.

Student Psychological Services: If you need support during the Easter period, you will find help and information at Student Psychological Services. If you feel you need crisis support please visit: Crisis Support.

Study Abroad: If you are a student currently abroad and you require emergency assistance please contact your travel insurance provider on the emergency number: +44 (0) 1273 400 850.

If you will be staying in your placement over all or part of the Easter period, don't forget that you can always contact the Global Student Assistance Programme should you need any advice or a listening ear. The service, which is available 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year, provides independent, impartial support and guidance on a wide variety of legal, financial and personal matters.

Teacher Support: The Teacher Support Network runs a 24-hour support line on 08000 562 561 (UK), and you can also find lots of information on their website.

Money Matters: If you have any financial concerns, UCL Student Support and Wellbeing recommends you try and make the necessary arrangements to see a member of the Student Funding Team before Easter. For useful information regarding financial support, please visit the UCL Financial Assistance website.

Examinations: If you are unwell over the Easter break and think that this may affect your revision for examinations, you should consult your GP and submit a medical note as an extenuating circumstance to your academic department. 

If you have an accident or a medical condition that means that you might be eligible for special assessment arrangements, such as additional writing time or rest breaks, you should seek advice from Student Disability Services in the first instance after Easter, and we will do out very best to help you.

Halls of residence: Students staying in UCL halls of residence will be able to follow the usual lines of communications for support over Easter. There will be a duty member of staff on call every day if you need any assistance - your hall noticeboard will have their contact details.

Library opening arrangements

Many libraries at UCL are open over the Easter period, and some learning spaces are open 24-hours throughout the holiday. Further details regarding library opening times over the Easter period can be found on the Library Services website.
