Participants needed for study on attitudes towards EU migration

8 February 2018

This study by UCL PhD student Alexandra Bulat looks to understand people's views towards EU migration in the UK in the context of Brexit.

Map British, Romanian or Polish-born individuals are asked to share their experiences of migration or with migration and to what extent migration affects their everyday lives.

Who is it for?

This study needs participants who:

  • were born in the UK, Romania or Poland
  • live in one of two UK constituencies: Clacton (including Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea and neighbouring places) or West Ham (the London area between Canary Wharf and Stratford stations)

The researcher is looking to speak with people with a range of views on migration, and would love you to get involved whatever your views on the topic.

What will it involve?

Volunteers will participate in a one hour interview (or as long as you can spare) about your views on migration in the context of Brexit. The interviews will only be audio recorded if you're happy to do so, and the transcripts are anonymised.

The researcher is fluent in English and Romanian. If you prefer to answer in Polish (or give part of your answer in Polish), that is very welcome too.

What else do I need to know?

The interviews will take place at a time and location convenient for you. This is not a paid interview, but refreshments (for example, coffee and cake) can be offered. If you don't have enough time to sit down in a local cafe or pub, the interview can be conducted 'on the move' while you are walking, commuting to work, shopping, etc.

To participate in this research project, please email Alexandra Bulat. You will then receive an information sheet with more details about the interview.

This study has been approved by the UCL Ethics Committee (12123/001) and is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
