Professor David Bogle to Chair RCUK review of the Concordat to support researcher career development

12 October 2017

Professor David Bogle (Pro-Vice-Provost of UCL Doctoral School) has been appointed to chair the Research Councils UK review into the Concordat to Support Researcher Career Development.

David Bogle

The UK Concordat is an agreement between employers and funders that aims to improve levels of support for researchers and increase opportunities for researchers to develop their careers.

Since the Concordat's launch in 2008 there have been significant changes in the research landscape and this ten-year review will seek to establish the impact the Concordat has had on institutional cultures for researcher support, identify areas of best practice and opportunities for change. It will measure progress of implementing the Concordat's aims, consider whether it remains fit for purpose, and what policy measures are needed to ensure the UK's research system can continue to attract and retain talented staff.

Professor Bogle said: 'It is a great privilege to chair this review. Given the changing research world it is vital that the UK maintains a leading position as a great place to be a researcher and the Concordat has a key role in setting the agenda. The Provost has asked me to look at the environment for postdocs here at UCL so this will also help focus our efforts here.'

The report will be published in 2018. More information is available on the Research Councils UK website: http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/skills/frameworks/review-of-the-concordat-to-suppo...
