UCL Staff Choir - call for lower range voices

1 May 2018

Thanks to all those who have already signed up to the choir.

Manuscript We already have over 50 potential singers!

We really need more lower range voices - tenor and bass, of either gender would be very welcome so please do get in touch.

A reminder about the choir

We've found a great choir leader - Gitika Partington, and we have a room booked for Thursdays from 1-2pm.

We are hoping it will be both challenging and fun, and is open to singers of all experiences. The repertoire will include all types of pop/world/folk  (yes that might include country and western and protest songs!) and new original pieces. The group will, in time, be able to help decide on the repertoire. You don't need to be able to read music - we'll all learn together by ear, and by listening to audio files/watching videos in between sessions (yes… homework!).We're planning to arrange an informal performance in the second half of July.

We're going to pilot the choir in the second half of this term. We're looking for people (and that includes lots of men!) who are able to commit to at least 6 of 7 weekly sessions from Thursday 7 June to Thursday 19 July. To encourage commitment, we'll ask that people pay £35 for this - all of which will go to the student hardship fund. If it goes well, we'll look to do it again in the autumn.

It you're interested, please write to Malika Barakat and please feel free to pass on to colleagues.

We have 80 spaces to offer - and we'll allocate them at random from everyone who's expressed interested before noon on Friday 4 May. If you've ideas for how to make this into something uplifting, connecting, and special then do let Tom Rowson and Cathy Brown know.
