Welcoming new students in January 2017

14 December 2016

When is enrolment? New students starting their studies at UCL in January 2017 will attend an enrolment appointment in the Front Quad Events Space on Thursday 5 (9:30am-5pm) and Friday 6 (10am-1pm) January 2017.

ISOP session

An Information Fair will take place in the Haldane Room and North Cloisters during these times. New students will be able to find out more about the support services, speak to our Global Ambassadors and find out more information about activities and events.

What is ISOP?

Each September and January, the International Student Support team organises the International Student Orientation Programme (ISOP). This is designed to help make students' transition to life in the UK and studying at UCL as smooth as possible. It's also a great opportunity for new students to meet their soon-to-be classmates!

ISOP is for all non-UK students, which includes European and other international students, who are starting their studies with us this January. ISOP is optional and free of charge. Students choose whether to attend ISOP or not as part of their online pre-enrolment.

When is ISOP?

ISOP for new graduate and affiliate students will run between Wednesday 4 and Friday 6 January 2017, with the following schedule:

  • 4 January - 'We are all global' talks (Christopher Ingold Building)
  • 5 January - Enrolment and Information Fair (Front Quad and Wilkins Building)
  • 6 January - 'Meet your department' session for short-term affiliate students (various locations)

What happens during ISOP?

Students attend their enrolment appointment and the 'We are all global' talks, which are as follows:

  • Official welcome - this includes an opening speech from a senior member of UCL staff and a Q&A with current UCL students on various aspects of settling into life at UCL. Affiliate students will receive information on module selection and graduate students will hear from UCL Careers about the services they offer.
  • Living in London - to give an authentic student perspective, a panel of our Global Ambassadors and others will give their advice and views on safety, transport, saving money and entertainment in London. Students will also find out about accessing healthcare and staying healthy during their studies.
  • Meet your UCLU - UCLU sabbatical officers will talk about the union, including the services they provide, clubs and societies, on-campus spaces and social events.

Alongside ISOP, UCLU will also run a number of social events for new students. There will additionally be tours of the campus and libraries, and the opportunity for new students to ask our Global Ambassadors questions face-to-face.

Online ISOP is available for any students who are unable to attend the talks in person.
