New network filestore service for UCL staff and postgraduate students

24 October 2012

Information Services Division (ISD) will launch a new network filestore service for UCL staff and postgraduate students on the 12 November.

helpdesk This service will provide 40GB of Archive Filestore (O:\ drive), that is secure across multiple ISD datacentres and backed up nightly.

The new Archive Filestore drive O:\ will be made available to staff and postgraduate students at UCL within the existing Institutional Filestore service.

All staff and postgraduates using the Staff WTS or Myriad desktop services will have their O:\ drive appear automatically. Staff that work on ADS or unmanaged PC's will need to manually map their O:\ drives. For detailed instructions, please submit your UCL User ID via the online form that can be found via the web link below.

The new O:\ drive is intended to provide extra capacity in addition to the current N:\ drive, and is primarily for static files that are used less frequently. Please note that new O:\ drive is not a suitable location for files that change rapidly and we recommend that you continue to use the N:\ drive for such files.

The new O:\ drive will be made available to all staff and postgraduates across UCL on 12 November with the exception of AISC supported users and undergraduate students. Should you have any issues please direct them to the ISD Service Desk. Information on contacting the ISD Service Desk can be found via the web link below.

Please note that the AISC is rolling out a similar expanded network file store for users it supports in the School of Life and Medical Sciences (SLMS). AISC users include Faculties of Medical Sciences, Population Health Sciences and Brain Sciences (excluding PaLS).  Therefore this O:\ drive announcement is only applicable for staff and postgraduate students not supported by the AISC. Information on contacting the AISC can be found via the web link below.
