UCL chooses Drupal for its websites

19 August 2015

Following a rigorous procurement process involving a range of stakeholders and content editors, UCL has chosen our new web Content Management System (CMS).

Drupal It's Drupal and we will be working with the selected supplier, Code Enigma, on its implementation.

Developers and content editors will all breathe a sigh of relief when our current CMS (Silva) is finally decommissioned, but there are more than 800 websites in Silva so migrating everything to the new CMS will not be a quick process, particularly given the bespoke nature of many sites. Detailed project planning is currently taking place so a completion date is not yet available but we expect the implementation to take about a year.

In the meantime, we are advising content editors to consider moving their existing Silva sites to the new Indigo Silva templates. These incorporate Indigo (our design pattern library) and enable the production of responsive websites (optimised for use on all devices). By doing this you will not only change your website to be device-independent, it will also enable automatic migration of your site to the new CMS further down the line.

Please contact web-support@ucl.ac.uk for an assessment of your Silva website's suitability for moving to Indigo, or for any other related queries.
