The Student Barometer survey

21 May 2015

The Student Barometer is UCL's largest student feedback survey and opened to all students on 18 May and will run until 26 June.

Student Barometer

It gives students the opportunity to tell us about their experiences at UCL and tell us what is and isn't working. We take their feedback very seriously and use it to inform policy through the Student Experience Forum. The survey takes about ten minutes to complete and covers academic and learning experience, living, arrival and orientation, and support services.

Historically our response rates have been low, with last year's reaching just 18%. We will be tackling this in a number of ways, including improving the way we publicise the survey, communicating better with students about what we have done as a result of their feedback, and reducing the number of times we survey them.

Evidence shows that students respond more favourably to requests to complete surveys from people who they know, such as their lecturers, Heads of Department and administrators, as well as their fellow students. Please encourage your students to complete the survey online before 26 June from the link sent to their university email address. We are particularly keen to hear from postgraduate students.

The survey is also being promoted via a range of UCL-branded material. This includes a poster and flyer campaign, the 'wallpaper' on all cluster PCs, images on digital screens, email banners and on Moodle.

If you would like any publicity to display in your department (electronic or printed) please contact Rebecca Allen in the Office of the Vice-Provost (Education and Student Affairs) at r.allen@ucl.ac.uk
