Participants needed for study on depression

Researchers at the Wellcome Centre for Neuroimaging and the Anna Freud Centre are looking to understand how motivation differs in people suffering with depression.

We are currently recruiting people suffering from depression.

Researchers have discovered a lot about how the brain deals with motivation due to rewards and losses in healthy people. Problems with motivation are very important for many people suffering with depression.  We therefore want to compare the brain responses of people who experience symptoms of depression with those without depressive symptoms using small losses and rewards. If we are successful, we hope that our study will help with motivation problems that people with depression often have.

We are looking for people who:

- have been diagnosed with Depression by a qualified health professional such as a doctor or psychologist,

- do not have serious problems with their physical health,

- speak and read fluent English,

- are aged 18 + years, and

- are right handed.

If you decide to participate, you will have a brain scan and play computer games where you can win money.  The sessions will last around 3 ½ hours and you will earn at least £40, and you can earn more depending on how you do in the games.

The study has been approved by the NRES Committee London-City and East, South West REC Centre, (REC reference: 11/LO/0250).
