28 January 2014

The UCL Academy is holding a jazz night to raise funds for a group of 14 students to travel to Ecuador on a charity project.

The music on the evening will be provided by the UCLU Jazz Society. To assist in the fundraising, there will also be a silent auction.

Tickets for the jazz night are £10 and can be bought at the door or via the event website. The ticket price includes appetisers, and attendees are encouraged to bring a bottle of wine!

All proceeds from the event will go towards the student's goal of visiting Ecuador and building a clean water system for the Puma Rumi community there. This is expected to take around two weeks.

Similar trips to Puma Rumi significantly benefitted the community: in 2009, a pipe was installed to pump water to the community for the first time; in 2011, the visiting students built a new school to replace the old one which was made of rotting bamboo; and in 2012, the school built in the previous year was tiled and the water piping was extended to reach it.

These trips are made as part of the UCL Academy's participation in World Challenge. World Challenge organises expeditions for students in the developing world in order to experience different cultures and learn outside of the classroom.

The jazz evening will run from 6:00pm-8:00pm. It will be held at the UCL Academy, Adelaide Road, London NW3 3AQ.

Alternatively, you can donate directly to the school's project on the project website.
