Staff sought for UCL LGBT Equalities Advisory Group

18 October 2012

LGBT staff

UCL staff are invited to join the UCL LGBT Equalities Advisory Group (LEAG).

LEAG is open to all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff and those interested in promoting LGBT equality at UCL. The group is an advisory body that meets for about an hour once a term. They are particularly interested in members of staff who are willing to be involved in organising social and academic out-of-hours events.

The aims of the network are to:

  • promote positive attitudes towards LGBT people and raise the profile of LGBT equality across the university;
  • promote recognition and awareness of discrimination facing LGBT staff and address any inequalities;
  • ensure issues of sexual orientation and gender identity are integrated into the operation of equalities and diversity at UCL;
  • consider the impact of legislation on UCL policies, procedures and practices as they relate to issues of sexual orientation and gender identity;
  • identify any employment issues, policies, or practices that adversely affect LGBT staff;
  • liaise with other universities with a view to sharing resources and/or ideas regarding issues of sexual orientation and gender identity;
  • report on progress to the Committee for Equal Opportunities and other relevant UCL committees and groups, as necessary;
  • act in an advisory body to UCL on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Fiona Addison, co-chair of LEAG, explains: “The LGBT Equalities Advisory Group (LEAG) gives people a voice and improves the visibility and awareness of LGBT issues at UCL. I really enjoy the strong and vibrant social aspect to the group and I value being part of a network that is proactive and has had many positive outcomes as a result of our work.”

If you would like to find out more about the group please contact the Co-Chairs: Fiona Addison and Max Hill or visit the group’s website.
