Grant Museum wins Love London Time Out Award

19 November 2015

The Grant Museum of Zoology at UCL has won the category for local culture in Bloomsbury, Fitzrovia and Holborn via public vote in Time Out's Love London Awards.

Grant Museum wins Love London Time Out Award

The museum was up against huge competition in the shape of the British Museum and other museums including the Cartoon Museum, the Hunterian and the Sir John Soane's Museum who all feature along with the Grant in the 'Museum Mile' group of museums.

The winner's party took place on Monday 16 November at the Bloomsbury Ballroom and Dean Veall (Learning Officer at the Grant Museum) went along. He said:"There was champagne, dancing and ice-cream involved as we celebrated our win with some of London's best business and cultural venues. Here at the Museum we are really overwhelmed to have firstly be nominated by the members of the public for the award and then to win via public vote. We are extremely grateful for all the support shown."

This is Time Out's second annual Love London Awards. Since the awards launched in September, nearly 16,000 nominations have been cast for almost 5,000 amazing venues across the capital. Followed by close to 75,000 votes, revealing the most-loved spots in each category - cafés, restaurants, shops, local culture and pubs - in every area of London.

The current exhibition at the Grant Museum is Glass Delusions. Over the last year, Eleanor Morgan has been the Leverhulme Trust funded Artist in Residence at the Grant Museum of Zoology. Investigating the collection of glass sponges, Eleanor has been exploring glass as a material, its cultural significance and how living and inorganic glass interact.

Glass Delusions is an exhibition of her new work inspired by the Museum's collection, the conversations she has had with biologists, chemists, geologists and engineers along the way, and the challenge of re-animating a museum of dead creatures.

Glass Delusions runs until 19th December 2015. The Grant Museum is open from 1-5pm Monday to Saturday, admission is free and there is no need to book.
