“Putin has this distinction between ‘enemies’ and ‘traitors’. Enemies you fight with, but the hope is you’ll meet some modus vivendi with them. Traitors you can do nothing with but kill,” said Professor Mark Galeotti (UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies).
