African DNA hints at mystery hominin species

Professor Mark Thomas (UCL Division of Biosciences) comments on a piece saying that some people carry mysterious genes that might be of another species of early human. A link has been drawn with the Homo naledi species who were present in South Africa about 250,000 years ago but this seems unlikely according to Professor Thomas. A more likely link could be the Homo heidelbergensis species. Read: New Scientist
