New Dean of UCL Engineering Sciences announced
8 May 2025
Professor Andy Nisbet has been announced as UCL’s new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, effective 1 August 2025.

Professor Nisbet has been interim Dean since October 2024, following the retirement of Professor Nigel Titchener-Hooker, and was previously Head of the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at UCL, a role he took up in 2019 when he joined UCL from the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Surrey University.
Internationally renowned for his research track record in radiotherapy, in particular on mitigating the risk of cardiovascular events following breast radiotherapy, Professor Nisbet’s work has led to improvements to clinical practice worldwide. He is also strongly engaged with government and policymakers in the UK and internationally to ensure that decisions around radiotherapy services are based on the latest evidence and understandings of patient safety.
Welcoming the appointment, Dr Michael Spence, President & Provost of UCL, said:
“Engineering Sciences at UCL is a large and diverse faculty and it is terrific to have as our new Dean someone with such a strong track record of academic achievement, impact and leadership. Andy has led first his department and then the faculty in a time of significant change and uncertainty for the sector, through the challenges of Covid and the resultant changes to student application patterns. His vision, his focus on excellence and his open, collaborative, people-centred leadership has been hugely valuable, and I am delighted that he will be continuing as Dean.”
Professor Nisbet said:
“I am delighted and honoured to be appointed as the Dean of Engineering Sciences. Having had the privilege of leading the faculty as interim Dean since October 2024, I have been inspired by the excellence of our staff and students. The Faculty of Engineering Sciences has the potential to be one of the world’s leading Engineering Faculties. This will be underpinned by and build upon our existing broad and deep collaborations across disciplinary boundaries, world class innovation activities, industrial and policy engagement, and best in class education offerings. We also have graduates and alumni who are recognized as world leading in their respective fields. I’m sincerely grateful for this remarkable opportunity to lead such a diverse Faculty and I very much look forward continuing to work with colleagues, students and alumni across the faculty and wider college.”
