Innovative UCL startup picked by world leading business accelerator

12 May 2025

A startup based at UCL has joined the Y Combinator accelerator to develop its artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted platform that helps businesses in different sectors find new clients.

Throxy was co-founded by UCL alumnus Pablo Jimenez de Parga Ramos (MSc Bioscience Entrepreneurship) alongside Bergen Merey and Arnau Ayerbe Garcia.

In early 2025 Throxy joined Y Combinator’s (YC) first-ever Spring intake, named X25. YC is a world leading business accelerator that has helped to launch the fortunes of companies like Stripe, Airbnb and Reddit.

Co-founder Pablo commented: “Joining YC is already accelerating everything for us — from refining our product and positioning to learning from world-class founders and partners. It’s helping us think ten times bigger and move even faster toward our long-term vision: a future where sales teams only focus on closing, while intelligent systems handle everything else. We're just getting started — and we’re excited for what’s next.”

Throxy’s potential was first recognised by Venrex, an early-stage venture capital fund in December 2023. Venrex were the first to back companies including Revolut and Charlotte Tilbury and early investors in Rippling and Just Eat.

Combining AI with human experts

Pablo spent four years in sales before realising many of the existing systems and processes for finding new clients were effectively ‘broken’. Forbes estimates that around 65% of sales teams’ time is not spent actually selling, but rather navigating multiple different inefficient and ineffective software tools and chasing dead leads.

With his co-founders, he therefore set about ‘rebuilding sales from scratch’ with a focus on companies selling into traditional industries like manufacturing, logistics, education, and finance.

Throxy’s solution combines AI agents with human experts to deliver highly bespoke sales campaigns. It handles all the outreach activities and books in carefully selected meetings with potential clients straight into the calendars of sales executives.

Founded in 2023 by Pablo, Bergen and Arnau, the Throxy team took up residence in the Hatchery incubator programme at BaseKX, UCL’s dedicated entrepreneurship hub, where they have access to free tailored support, mentorship and office space.

Pablo added: “UCL Hatchery’s mentors and alumni network was super useful, especially as a first-time founder. It gave us very actionable advice on how to run a business. My assigned mentor was great and exactly what I needed to start building our sales motion from scratch. I also made great friends and it is an ideal hub in London for people wanting to take risks and run their own business, but with the backing of UCL.”

Congratulating the team, Professor Geraint Rees, UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement), said: “Pablo, Bergen and Arnau have hit upon an idea that could have a transformative impact on many different industries and help make the vital connections that smooth the wheels of innovation. They are a great example of developing and deploying AI holistically in collaboration with human expertise. I’m pleased that the UCL entrepreneurial ecosystem has been able to support them on their continuing journey and wish them every success in the future.”
