Celebrating our Technical Professionals with the "Technical Professional of the Year" Award

The "Technical Professional of the Year" award recognises outstanding achievements by technical professionals in various fields contributing to UCL's mission.
UCL’s Technical Skills Development Hub (TSDH) and Technical Managers Group (TMG) are proud to announce the annual "Technical Professional of the Year" award, a key event within the Technical Showcase, designed to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of its Technical Professionals to our technical community. This prestigious award aims to highlight those individuals who have excelled in their respective fields and have significantly contributed to UCL's mission.
UCL employs approximately 1,000 highly skilled technical staff. The "Technical Professional of the Year" award celebrates the diverse expertise of Technical Professionals or Research and Teaching Technical Professionals (RTTPs), which includes technicians, research professionals, team-science professionals, workshop engineers, research software engineers, data scientists, research nurses, clinical trial managers, and informaticians.
Eligibility criteria:
The award celebrates technical professionals who have excelled within one of the following categories:
- Research
- Education
- Enterprise & External Engagement
- General Workshop & Laboratory Services
- Apprentice
- Leadership
Nomination process:
UCL encourages colleagues and technical professionals to nominate individuals, including self-nominations, who have demonstrated exceptional performance in one or more of the job families listed above. The deadline to nominate is 30 April.
A supporting statement detailing how the nominee has excelled is required.

Prizes and recognition:
All nominated staff will receive a certificate of nomination.
Winners will receive a certificate, a physical award designed and manufactured in one of UCL’s workshops, and a gift voucher.
About the Technical Skills Development Hub (TSDH):
The Technical Skills Development Hub (TSDH) is the organizational home of the Technician Commitment at UCL. It supports technical career development, skills management, and the attraction and retention of technical talent. The TSDH aims to develop Technical Professionals within collaborative platforms, creating an environment where they can thrive and continuously develop technical skills to pioneer technology, aligning with UCL’s academic priorities.
About the Technical Managers Group (TMG):
Comprising of representatives from technical staff, senior management, and UCL Organisational Development, the purpose of the Technical Managers Group is to represent the full range of technical roles across the institution and drive forward the implementation of UCL’s Technician Commitment Action Plan. TMG is also a key stakeholder group for the Technical Skills Development Hub.
