Through consultation with colleagues across UCL, the Strategic Communications Team in the Office of the Vice-President (External Engagement) have developed a suite of 24 audience personas.

UCL’s personas are valuable tools for planning any marketing or communications activity, framing messages effectively, and ensuring our offerings resonate with our audiences.

The persona cards and an associated toolkit are available to view and download from the VPEE Strategic Communications SharePoint

About audience personas and how to use them

Audience personas are detailed audience profiles that represent different types of stakeholders who might interact with UCL including different types of prospective and current students and their parents, our alumni, and different staff groups working across the university.

Personas are essentially ‘cheat sheets’ that help you plan comms and marketing activity. Rather than conducting audience research every time you create a new campaign, the personas combine the latest insights and best practice for each audience group.

To help staff utilise them, the team has developed a toolkit that sets out what they are, why you might use them, how they can be applied and when. It also provides some use case examples and the process involved in creating them.
