Support for our community following the Bondi Beach Chanukah attack

The Metropolitan Police has notified UCL that it has stepped up its police presence around synagogues and other community venues in London following this weekend’s terrorist attack targeting members of Sydney’s Jewish community during a Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach.

The Police have said that while there is no information to suggest any link between the attack in Sydney and the threat level in London, they are encouraging the wider public to be vigilant at events and in public places.

We know that this horrific antisemitic attack will be deeply distressing for many in our community, and the timing of it, coming at the start of Chanukah when our Jewish communities should be celebrating, makes it even more so.

We condemn this attack and all forms of antisemitism. Our thoughts are with Jewish communities worldwide at this time.

As always, UCL is marking the festival with a chanukiah on display at the heart of our campus, and our Security team will be visible and on hand throughout to support and reassure our community.
