UK Emergency Alerts: Test alert to be sent to all smartphones on 23 April 2023

22 March 2023

The UK Government is launching a new Emergency Alerts service that will warn members of the public if there’s a danger to life nearby. A test alert will be sent to smartphone users across the UK on 23 April.

Mobile

The UK Government’s Emergency Alert system, launched in March of this year, has been set up to send urgent messages to the public in case of life-threatening situations such as flooding or extreme weather events.

On 23 April 2023 there will be a UK-wide test of the emergency alert system, with messages expected to be sent to all smartphone users across the UK in the early evening. Your mobile phone or device may sound a siren-like alarm, vibrate, or read out the message – even if it’s set to silent.

You do not need to take any action.
