Students' Union UCL's Equity and Inclusion Officer, Seyi Osi

What are you studying, why are you interested in this subject and what do you plan to do in the future?

I’ve just finished studying Psychology and Language Sciences at UCL. I’m currently Equity and Inclusion Officer at SU UCL this year. A few of my priorities whilst in this role include: creating a clear varied programme for history months, starting with Black History Month this October, support the fight for Trans Liberation and implementing sustainable actions and plans which will foster a safer more inclusive student community.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done, seen or got involved with while at UCL?

The arts! – I’ve been involved with multiple various Bloomsbury Theatre Productions and arts societies. Special shout out to RENT and Rhapsody 22. Through this I’ve met incredible people and have developed my creative producing skills which I’ve built upon professionally.

Have you discovered any hidden gems during your time at UCL?

Thenga Café – near Chandler House, yummy cheap independent (vegan) Indian café

Give us your top three things to do/see/go to in London:

Going to see amazing cabaret – such as seeing The Cocoabutter Club

Going book shopping

Mullys for a LM gig

What’s one thing you like seeing in a post-Covid world?

I love seeing the increased student engagement post COVID restrictions. Everyone is keen to make connections and friends after a couple years of social isolation

Who inspires you and why?

Audre Lorde – black, lesbian, warrior, poet. She used her creativity to address injustices such as racism, sexism, classism, homophobia and transphobia.

What would it surprise people to know about you?

I’ve met Basil Brush!
