Seven Questions with... Molly Edwards
21 October 2022
Meet Molly Edwards, ChangeMaker Student Fellow. Here Molly chats to us about experiences with the ChangeMaker scheme and what life's like as a Student Fellow, reasons for studying education, London tips, adorable prized possession and why you should visit the museums at UCL!
What are you studying, why are you interested in this subject and what do you plan to do in the future?
I am studying BA Education Studies. I chose to study this because education impacts everyone and this course gives me the opportunity to explore that in so many ways. I am currently applying for Master’s programmes in the UK. After that I hope to undertake a PhD.
What is the most interesting thing you’ve done, seen or got involved with while at UCL?
I have found being a ChangeMaker a really rewarding experience. Another student on my course and I first applied for ChangeMaker funding and support to re-establish an education society with the support of our course leaders. We became co-presidents of that society and established a dedicated committee, working to host events for students and build more of a community at the IOE.
I enjoyed this experience so much that I applied to be a ChangeMaker Student Fellow. In this role, I helped organise an annual conference (CAN), I was interviewed by a studio about my views on student-staff partnerships, and I attended meetings influencing policy across UCL. Throughout this, I got a lot of guidance and support from the ChangeMaker leaders and other Fellows, but I also felt my voice was really valued as a student. So, I would recommend getting involved with ChangeMakers if you get the chance!
Have you discovered any hidden gems during your time at UCL?
I think the UCL museums and archives are great! They have so many interesting collections and always someone willing to help if you need it.
Give us your top three things to do/see/go to in London:
- Go to Kew Gardens during winter, they have a really cool light show called ‘Christmas at Kew’.
- Try food you have never tried before, there are so many great cuisines available in London.
- Ride on the DLR.
What’s one thing you’d like to see in a post-Covid world?
I would like to see people continue to take time to look after themselves and others in small ways.
Who inspires you and why?
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez inspires me. She is an amazing actress and advocate.
What would it surprise people to know about you?
One of my most valuable possessions is a cuddly penguin called Doddles.
