New UCL Global Scholarships Launched

The UCL Student Funding team is pleased to announce the launch of UCL’s new Global Scholarships Programme. Initially, 100 scholarships will be available each year to support international (overseas tuition fee paying) students to undertake undergraduate or masters study.

Award values vary from full scholarship support for undergraduate students to partial scholarships for Master's students. The awards have been designed to remove financial barriers to study for talented students from lower-income backgrounds. These new central scholarships, offered in parallel with our established partnership schemes such as Chevening and the Commonwealth Scholarships programme, further enhance funding options for students from around the globe to study at UCL. The programme will also create opportunities for donors and new funding partners to join with UCL to expand the support on offer.

Commenting on the launch of the scheme, Professor Norbert Pachler, Pro Vice-Provost (Office of the Vice-Provost Education and Student Experience) who led the group which developed the international scholarships, said:

“The launch of these new Global Scholarships marks a significant point in the development of UCL’s scholarships support for international students. These schemes will eventually provide more than £5 million pounds of funding each year to support students from lower-income backgrounds. Our new scholarships for undergraduate students will provide life changing opportunities. Overall, these scholarships show UCL’s commitment to maintaining the diversity of our student community. They will enable talented students, regardless of their backgrounds, to enjoy the benefits of studying at UCL. We hope that donors and new partners will also join with us to expand the support on offer.”
