Join the conversation about UCL’s future

14 January 2022

Sign up to a workshop to help shape the university’s Strategic Plan 2022–27 .

UCL students

We’re in the middle of a community-wide consultation to develop UCL’s new Strategic Plan for the next five years. Whatever your level of study, if you’re a UCL student we want your help!

In Term One, we asked you for your views on what kind of university we are right now and what we should aspire to be. In student submissions and workshops held this term, some students have said:

  • Education and/or excellence should be added as values of UCL;
  • There should be more opportunities for collaboration, both with staff and other students, outside of the formal curriculum;
  • There should be more innovation within the formal curriculum;
  • UCL needs to exemplify their values in everything it does.

This term, we’re asking where we should focus our effort and investment so that we can make a greater positive impact on the world through our research and education. Please share your ideas, from what your education might look like and how we could improve campus, to how we can work with the wider world.

To drive the conversation, we’re publishing a series of discussion papers. Read the papers and their executive summaries and find out more about the consultation (UCL email required).

  • Evolving the UCL Grand Challenges (published 10 January) proposes that UCL should address specific urgent global issues by creating targeted multi-disciplinary programmes of activity.
  • Academic opportunities for targeted investment (published 10 January) considers where we might prioritise major capital or other investment to support academic disciplines.

There are lots of ways you can get involved and share your thoughts on the future of UCL:

  • Join a Town Hall or workshop, where you will be guided through the papers and asked for your opinions;
  • Share your views with us using the online forms on the Strategy Consultation SharePoint.
  • If you have any further ideas of how you want to be involved in this process, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Strategic Plan student workshops

Join us for a workshop to discuss the plans, ask questions and share your experiences of being a UCL student.

We will be exploring the Evolving the UCL Grand Challenges and Academic opportunities for targeted investment papers. What do you think of the proposed areas of focus and how do you think they will impact on your education? And what are your thoughts on the proposed principles for making investment decisions, and the suggested areas of investment?

No previous experience or knowledge is required – just bring your enthusiasm and a desire to make your mark on the future of UCL.

Workshops are scheduled for Wednesday 26 January, 1.30–3pm and 3.30–5pm, in Room G.01, UCL Central House. Light refreshments will be provided.
