UCL appoints new Vice-President (Advancement)

26 October 2021

Angharad Milenkovic has been named as UCL’s new Vice-President (Advancement) and from today takes charge of the strategic direction of the university’s philanthropy and alumni relations activity as well as joining its senior leadership team.

Angharad

Angharad joined UCL in 2009 and has served as Director of Development since 2019, leading on the development and successful delivery of the It’s All Academic Campaign, which closed last year after exceeding its targets of £600m and 250,000 volunteer hours.  A prominent figure in the international advancement sector, she is particularly expert in developing major gift programmes, legacy fundraising and securing complex seven and eight figure gifts.

Welcoming the appointment, UCL President & Provost Dr Michael Spence said: “Angharad has an impressive track record in advancement and is renowned for her passion for the power of philanthropy, and the impact of an engaged community on the life of a university. She has already demonstrated tremendous leadership within UCL’s advancement office and I’m delighted she will take up the role of Vice-President and bring her expertise and insight to UCL’s leadership team.”

Prior to joining UCL, Angharad worked within the charity sector, including on the NSPCC’s Full Stop Campaign, which was the largest charity fundraising campaign of its time. She has held senior roles in the social enterprise Goodwork and worked in Thailand coordinating an international volunteer programme spanning a number of education and conservation projects across the country. She is a regular speaker in the UK and Europe for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and a Trustee at Mercy Ships UK, an international development organisation.

Angharad Milenkovic said: "UCL is extremely fortunate to have a strong community of donors, supporters and alumni, who play a critical role in delivering UCL’s ambitions. Philanthropy is enabling us to accelerate our trailblazing research into some of the world’s most pressing problems: cancer, dementia, mental health, among many others. Through support for UCL, it is possible to be part of truly world-changing discoveries.

“I am looking forward to working in partnership with our donors, supporters, alumni, and UCL’s senior team in the next exciting phase for the University, as UCL continues to deliver real and tangible impact for people, places and our planet.”

Paul Ramsbottom OBE is Chief Executive of the Wolfson Foundation, which has funded research, people and infrastructure at UCL, including a £20m donation for the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre. He said: “Angharad’s appointment to the Vice-President (Advancement) role is excellent news. It is exciting for the university but is also wonderful news for those looking to respond to the great global needs of the moment through partnerships with UCL.

“Angharad is greatly admired by all who have worked with her. She has a remarkable track record as a leader within the world of philanthropy and, in particular, has an enviable ability to marry the ambitions of funders with the possibilities created through UCL's research - collaborations that can have profound and lasting impact.

"I could not be happier to welcome this appointment."

The office of the Vice President (Advancement) manages UCL’s philanthropic relationships and alumni engagement programmes and is one of Europe’s leading advancement offices. The Office has one overarching mission – to engage and grow all of UCL’s communities and to convey the brilliance of UCL to generate income through philanthropy and to build mutually beneficial relationships with UCL’s 300,000 alumni, supporters and friends.
