UCL demonstrates success across the disciplines as it climbs world subject rankings

The university has risen up the THE league table in six out of 11 disciplines, compared to the 2021 results.

The largest improvement was seen in Engineering, which moved 6 places from 42^nd to 36^th in the rankings. Law also jumped from 8^th to 6^th place.

Meanwhile, Arts and Humanities (which includes departments from both UCL Arts & Humanities and UCL Social & Historical Sciences), and Business and Economics, maintained their previous rankings of 5^th and 20^th respectively. 

In total, UCL now has 10 out of 11 subjects ranked in the top 25 globally and the university has been named 18^th overall in the THE World University Rankings for 2022.

The news comes after UCL returned to the top 10 in the Guardian Good University Guide 2022 and earlier this year, the university was also ranked as the 8^th best university in the world in the QS World University Rankings – climbing two places.

Professor David Price, UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement), said: “Although various league tables have their strengths and weaknesses, I welcome the recognition of UCL’s continued improvement across a range of disciplines. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students who have continued to flourish despite the unparalleled challenges of the pandemic.”
