Introducing China Connect

2 October 2020

Are you joining UCL remotely from mainland China? If so, our new China Connect service will ensure you experience reliable and consistent access to the resources you need to support your teaching and learning activities.

Introducing China Connect

How does it work?

To use the new China Connect service, all you need to do is download and install a piece of software on your computer called FortiClient. This creates a connection between your computer and London, via Shanghai, that provides reliable and consistent bandwidth.

It is not mandatory to use China Connect, but if you are experiencing poor performance or have difficulty reaching resources when engaging in teaching and learning activities in China, you should use China Connect.

Please remember to disconnect from China Connect after completing your UCL teaching and learning activities. As this is a new service for us, ISD will be monitoring the traffic on the link very carefully to ensure that everyone gets a good experience and we do ask that you reserve your use of the facility for UCL learning activities.

Please note: You should only use China Connect when you are in mainland China.

Help and Support

All students from China will have received an email inviting them to join the UCL China Connect DingTalk support group. If you haven’t received the email please contact the IT Services desk.

More information including full installation instruction is available on our China Connect webpage.
