Top tips for students sitting 24 hour online exams during Late Summer Assessment period

Everything you need to know to successfully submit your 24 hour exam to Moodle.

Students who deferred a 24 hour exam this year will be hard at work preparing to sit their exam during the Late Summer Assessment (LSA) period – from 24 August to 11 September 2020. We’ve got you covered with our top ten tips to successfully completing your online Moodle exam. 

  1. Use the Moodle practice area to get familiar with the submission process.
  2. Your exam paper and answer sheet will be accessible 24 hours before the deadline stated on your timetable. Times are written in UK time, or British Summer Time (BST).
  3. Download the exam question and answer sheets and save them using the naming format: CANDIDATENUMBER-MODULECODE, e.g. FSRY3-CHEM0001
  4. Always check you have the correct paper before starting. Resit students sitting a deferred exam should check the paper for your year of study. 
  5. If your exam requires handwritten answers, e.g. diagrams, equations etc. – download the Office Lens app for Windows, Apple or Android and get practising in advance. 
  6. You can only submit one document for each exam. Any handwritten pages or other items must be inserted as images into your main exam sheet. 
  7. Use your time wisely – do not leave your submission until the last minute. 24 hours has been set to be more than enough time to complete your exam. 
  8. Remember, the exam is open book but plagiarism, collusion an academic misconduct are still forbidden. Click here for a refresher on academic integrity. 
  9. Need to raise an issue about your exam paper? Use the Examination Paper Query form section of your answer sheet. Your department will investigate your query and determine if it needs to be considered when deciding your final mark. 
  10. Your first submission is final, so check and check again! No resubmission will be allowed and late submission may be penalised.

Ready to submit? Check:

  • Have you entered your word count on your answer sheet? 
  • Is everything saved as one document?
  • Have you used the correct naming format? 

Submitted? Congrats! A digital receipt will be sent to your UCL email. Save it as proof of your submission.
